Señor, Pray for Us
Pastel on linen paper
36 x 48 in.

A commission that included my friend's two daughters. They told me to paint anything I wanted and a month later when asked what the painting was about, I replied that it was a large Mexican tattoo. In this painting their daughters offer a prayer for Mexico, a spectacularly beautiful country, and to their benefit or demise, smothered in a rich history of conquest, revolution, great art, music and literature. Unmatched in their generosity, hospitality, love, cruelty and corruption, most Mexicans would give you the shirt off their backs if you weren't such an asshole. It's the most foreign country in the world and it's right next door.
